WealthFluent vs a 1% Advisor (2026)

What you are actually buying

A 1% advisor is a person (or a team) who can take discretion, implement trades, and stand in a fiduciary relationship. That is a service contract. The fee usually scales with the pot.

WealthFluent is software. Lifetime plan, whole balance sheet, cross-account optimizer, and Magpie — an AI that already has your accounts, goals, and plan. You stay in control. We do not take discretion. We are not a financial advisor.

Those are different jobs. The math below is real and incomplete. If you need advice, implementation, and someone to call, hire them. If you were going to do the work yourself anyway, do not pay 1% for a dashboard and an annual meeting.

Not financial advice. Tools, not recommendations. Confirm live prices on wealthfluent.com/pricing/.

The fee math we already publish

Using the comparison on our pricing page as of August 2026, annual cost on a $500,000 portfolio:

Product How it is priced Annual cost on $500K
WealthFluent PremiumFlat subscription$144
Boldin PlannerPlusFlat subscription$144
Vanguard (as we list it)0.30% AUM$1,500
Fidelity (as we list it)0.35% AUM$1,750
Schwab (as we list it)0.40% AUM$2,000
Empower wealth management (as we list it)0.89% AUM$4,450
A 1% AUM advisor1.00% AUM$5,000

Premium stays $144 a year as the portfolio grows. A 1% fee on $500K is $5,000. On $1M it is $10,000. The software does not get more expensive because you did the job.

Schedules change. Confirm the advisor’s current fee, minimums, and what is included before you treat $5,000 as a quote. Our software figures are the ones on our pricing page.

What 1% is supposed to buy

The honest case for an advisor is not the software. It is judgment, implementation, and accountability:

  • Someone who can tell you not to sell in a panic
  • Tax-aware trades they will actually place
  • A fiduciary relationship and a phone number
  • Household complexity you do not want to run yourself

If that is the job, 1% (or a flat planning retainer) may be the right product. WealthFluent will not pretend to be that person.

What $144 is supposed to buy

If you are self-directed, the job is different:

  • Assets and liabilities in one place
  • A lifetime plan that produces a personalized, investable benchmark — not a risk bucket
  • Simulate a change, then see recommended trades across accounts
  • Ask Magpie about your Roth, your mortgage, your retirement date — not a textbook Roth

Generic AI can explain a Roth. Magpie can explain yours. That is the Financial Intelligence layer (Premium and Lifetime). Magpie is not an advisor. It informs and educates. It does not trade.

Choose the advisor if…

You want someone else to manage the portfolio, you will not run the tools, or you need a fiduciary on the hook. Read their Form ADV. Ask what happens when you call. Do not hire a 1% relationship for a login and a PDF.

Choose WealthFluent if…

You will do the work. You want the books, the plan, and the trades that close the gap, with Magpie on that file. Founded 2020 in Edwards, Colorado by David J. Kon, Dr. Stanley J. Kon, and Joshua P. Kon.

You can also use both: keep an advisor for the relationship and still run the software. We do not need you to fire anyone to start a 14-day trial.

This page is the 1% fee math, not the firm and not the credential. For the firm (registration, Form ADV, fiduciary contract), see WealthFluent vs RIA. For the credential (CFP Board mark, not a license), see WealthFluent vs CFP. Comparing software rather than an advisor? See WealthFluent vs Boldin vs Empower.

FAQ

Does WealthFluent replace a 1% advisor?

Only if you were going to do the work yourself anyway. We do not take discretion. We do not stand in a fiduciary relationship. A 1% fee on $500K is $5,000 a year; Premium is $144. That math is real and incomplete. Advice, implementation, and someone to call are what the 1% is supposed to buy.

Is a 1% fee always 1%?

No. Some firms charge less as assets grow. Some charge a flat planning retainer. Some wrap product fees on top. Use their current schedule, not this page, before you decide.

How is this different from Empower’s wealth management?

Empower’s free dashboard is tracking. Their paid path is AUM management — on $500K we list about $4,450 a year at 0.89%. That is an advisor-shaped product. WealthFluent is the self-directed stack. Details: vs Boldin vs Empower.

What does Magpie have to do with this?

Magpie is the AI on your actual accounts and plan. It is not ChatGPT, and it is not a human advisor. If the question is “given my file, what is true,” that is Magpie. If the question is “please manage this for me,” that is an advisor.

Is this financial advice?

No. WealthFluent is not a financial advisor. Magpie is not a financial advisor. This page is information for a buying decision about software versus an AUM relationship, not about securities.

What’s included in the 14-day trial?

A 14-day free trial so you can connect accounts and use the tools before you pay. The default Premium trial includes the Portfolio Optimizer and Market Analysis. Confirm current trial terms on the site.
