WealthFluent Data Quality flagging a holding whose price, shares and value do not reconcile

TL;DR: New built-in Data Quality checks and security proxies help you catch the data errors that quietly skew your plan.

We’ve shipped a wave of updates focused on data integrity: new Data Quality checks built into your Task Manager, security proxies for holdings that won’t reveal what’s inside them, sharper Human Capital controls, fullscreen widgets, refreshed live market data, and easier billing and account management.

When we introduced Human Capital and lifetime planning, the goal was to show you the full value of your financial life — including the part you don’t see on a brokerage statement. We’ve kept building on it.

Lately the team has been focused on a related problem: making sure the numbers behind that picture are accurate, complete, and easy to act on. Here’s what’s new.

Data Quality checks, built into your Task Manager

Your plan is only as good as the data behind it. When you link an outside account, the financial data provider occasionally sends numbers that don’t fully reconcile — and those small gaps can quietly skew your net worth, your allocation, and your projections. The new Data Quality view scans your holdings and surfaces them in one place, grouped by account.

A couple of examples of when it’s useful:

  • When price, shares, and value don’t multiply out. If a holding’s share price comes through stale, or a stock split or ticker change hasn’t fully flowed through the feed, then price × quantity won’t equal the reported market value. Data Quality flags the mismatch so your account total reflects what you actually hold.
  • When an asset breakdown doesn’t add up to 100%. If a security arrives with an incomplete stock / bond / cash / real-asset classification, it quietly distorts your allocation and your personalized benchmark. We surface those so the analysis stays accurate.

From there you can review each issue and apply an override in a couple of clicks. Holdings you’ve already taken control of — manual entries, proxies, or deliberate overrides — are recognized as intentional and won’t keep nagging you. And value-only holdings like money market funds or annuities, which report a balance but no per-share price, are left alone instead of raised as false alarms.

Set a proxy when a fund won’t reveal what’s inside it

Some holdings never report their underlying composition — target-date funds, annuities, and certain 401(k) options are common culprits. Others have no public ticker at all, like a private investment, a non-traded fund, or a holding you track manually. In either case, WealthFluent can’t see how the holding is split across stocks, bonds, cash, and real assets, which leaves a gap in your allocation and your personalized benchmark.

A proxy closes that gap. Open the security editor, search for a similar, transparent security by ticker or name (say, BND for a broad bond fund or VTI for a total-market fund), preview exactly which fields will change, and apply it. WealthFluent borrows that security’s qualitative profile — allocations, sectors, and yields — so your opaque or private holding can finally be analyzed like everything else in your portfolio. Your account’s real price and quantity stay untouched; only the composition is filled in. And you can swap the proxy or clear it whenever you want.

Why complete data on every security matters

WealthFluent analyzes your portfolio as one connected system: your true asset allocation, your fully dynamic personalized benchmark, the optimization that weighs your holdings across 56 distinct risk dimensions, and the probability ranges for your future net worth — including downside risk — are all built from the composition of every holding you own. When a security’s data is incomplete, the optimizer is working with a blind spot — it can’t accurately weigh that holding’s risk and return against the rest of your portfolio, so a single mislabeled position quietly pulls every downstream number off, the same way one wrong cell throws off an entire spreadsheet. That’s why Data Quality and proxies exist — so every holding carries complete, accurate data, and the optimization and projections you’re making decisions from reflect what you actually own.

Sharper Human Capital controls

Building on the Human Capital launch:

  • A one-click Show Human Capital button right on the Investor Profiles widget — see the value of your future earnings without digging into a dialog.
  • Custom occupation and industry options, so your profile fits even when your career doesn’t match a standard list.
  • Per-member chart links for households planning together.
  • Advanced discount-rate settings — bring your own beta and duration-matched Treasury rates for a more personalized, risk-adjusted view of what your career is worth.

Why this matters

This isn’t a cosmetic refresh. Every holding in your portfolio feeds the analysis you make decisions from — your allocation, your benchmark, your optimization, and your projections. When the data behind a single security is stale, incomplete, or opaque, it quietly pulls those numbers off. Data Quality and proxies give you a fast way to catch and fix those gaps, so the picture you’re acting on reflects what you actually own.
